In my first year of college, I decided to take a photo appreciation class to fulfill an art general education requirement. I was immediately taken by the art form I had previously been vaguely aware of, and so in my second year I signed up for beginning and intermediate photography classes. This page is dedicated to the resulting art I've created. I will attempt to present these photos in a loose order based on style.
Los Angeles Harbor College Project - My unofficial "final project" from my many semesters of taking photography.
Form - Design - Pattern
- "Staircase" - This was the best of my first project - Autobiographical: take photos of things that define you. It's the stairwell at my apartment building. It was on the first roll of film I'd ever developed myself. Notice the faint, superimposed sprocket image on the bottom--a strange developing mistake, probably due to mechanical error on my part.
- "Magazines" - No, they're not playboys. I had a 3 year subscription to Nintendo Power. None of them told me how to organize.
- "Table Cloth" - Most people liked this one the best for this project, so this is what I turned in. I got an A, and a headache trying to print it correctly.
- "Pillow Case" - People who see my work lying around know it was a guy who took the picture.
- "Stove" - I liked it better than the sheet, but people said it was "too recognizable."
- Calla Lily - Yeah, it's been done, but now I've done it :P
- Cacti - More nature.
- Cactus - I like the pattern in this one. It, too, has been done before.
Technical Ability
- "Birds" - The idea here was to basically stop some motion. Looks cool though huh?
- Blur - With the shutter open for a relatively long time, and the camera still, you can blur fast motion. There are two airplanes blurred in this photo, the wisps are clouds.
- Pan - Again with a long shutter speed, except this time following the motion of the object with the camera, or panning.
- Multiple Flash - Set up in a totally dark room. I had this guy (Chris) first stand behind the post, opened the shutter and flashed, closed the shutter. He then bent over on the post, and I opened the shutter and flashed again.
Formal Portraiture
- I convinced Khalil, one of my friends from my math class, to model for my photo class. It took a LOT of convincing.
- "Playtime" - Khalil with one of the photographer's baby.
- Joseph. This photo fits his personality.
- Joseph and Jacob - Another photographer took this with color film, and Sav-On wouldn't give him the photos because of their T-Shirts. Ridiculous.
- Laura, a photo student, decided to model for the class.
- Nelly with a better pose than in her informal portrait.
- Christina on the "posing couch;" her pants are too dark.
Informal Portraiture
- Mark, in an informal setting.
- "Brandon" - This is currently my favorite. It's my friend Brandon, and it came out quite well.
- Nelly, framed by the photographer Henry (He's the one that did my B&W photo)
